The inn is located in the Atlantic Coastal Plain and is only one hour from Wilmington and Raleigh. The town of Clinton is located only twenty minutes from the junction of two major highways, Route 95 and Route 40.

The major area income is from farming with tobacco and vegetable and hog farming. The Ashford is named after Colonel John Ashford, who fought at Gettysburg, and whose family lived in the house after the war.

His family is most responsible for many of the renovations in the house that still exist today.

The inn offers afternoon tea/coffee, business services, childcare, common library and sitting room, complimentary breakfast, evening reception, fireplace, free local calls, ice machines, meeting facilities, purified water, and prearranged private dining for groups and special activities.
